Bob Geldof to re-release Band Aid. Again.
Plans are under way to pull together a host of music stars to create the fourth incarnation of the Band Aid charity single.

The men behind Do They Know It's Christmas are expected to announce the line-up on Monday for Band Aid 30.

Bob Geldof and Midge Ure first gathered a group of musicians together in 1984, raising £8m for famine relief in Ethiopia.

Do They Know It's Christmas was recorded again in 1989 and 2004.

Geldof and Ure will be hoping to gather some of today's most popular music acts including One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith.

It is thought the money raised will go towards the fight against Ebola in West Africa.

1.8 million deaths from HIV/ AIDS in Africa, in 2010.

30 MILLION dead, globally, since "discovered".

Ebola?

We'll solve this when global drugs companies thnk they may turn a profit.

Ure's crap

but he's a lot better than Geldof anyday.

60% of all money raised is lost to corruption in Africa, so this is essentially causing further suffering.

Geldof, Ure and One Erection should be ashamed of themselves and the British public must boycott this disgusting fund raising event for Mugabe and all the other warlords and officials.

*spits*

Ebola's fuck all really. There's far better causes in Africa alone. Still, old Bob's a media savvy cunt and he's naturally got himself all over it.

The proceeds are going to the Ebola fund...

The total combined populations of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are about 25,000,000

Official figures say that 5,000 people have died...is it really an epidemic or just another bit of propaganda to scare everybody.

Remember, governments no longer sell us dreams - only nightmares

I disagree.

You'd be surprised how blissfully unaware of the world some very large segments of our youth really are, even to a surprisingly mature age.

Conversely of course, many of them are extremely well engaged, thoughtful young people. But others will hear about ebola for the first time in a Facebook argument or on Radio1 Newsbeat.

I don't think it creates any awareness at all. There's such a saturation of media coverage (talk on the telly, internet articles - even we're talking about it on here) that it won't spread the word to anyone new.

When corporations run social policy for governments it's actually a lot better than the other way round if you get my drift.

This made a lot of sense in 1984 when most young people went to Woollies and bought a single that was a unique concept to them.

Today it's still great for sparking awareness and debate, whether you hate it, him, them or not.

I don't think the fact there are many other ways in which this money could be raised is excluded from that debate, as long as people have the vocabulary to get their point across clearly and constructively.

Companies was the wrong word Gavros, you get the general gist of what I meant, yes corruption is rife.

"Companies build hundreds of thousands of miles of pipelines for oil and gas so they can sell it but won't do the same to pump water from places that have an abundance to places that don't have access to clean water. No money in that"

Any company that started spending money on something for which there was no return wouldnt be a company for very long. That's the job of the national government, perhaps helped by overseas aid and the UN. Usually, its the fault of the usually corrupt or uncaring national government that their own people drink dirty water. look at India's space missions for example, while half of India live in medieval conditions.

I have a problem with very wealthy men Bono & Geldoff (he sold his production company years ago for 20 million odd) expecting others to fork out money, when many are struggling to keep a roof over their heads . If they are that concerned just fuck up & write a few cheques yourselves.

About 10 years ago Geldof had a big UK tour booked but had to cancel it cos it only sold FORTY FIVE tickets.

Flogging a dead horse, greed will always prevail on this planet.

Companies build hundreds of thousands of miles of pipelines for oil and gas so they can sell it but won't do the same to pump water from places that have an abundance to places that don't have access to clean water. No money in that.

Same goes for food, half the world throws half their food away and the other half of the world are starving.

It's pony. 30 years ago same shit gong on. Africans ripping off Africans. The corruption is woven into the fabric of the place. Aid is not going to sort it out.
